
Following his first phone conversation with the secretary of state from President Donald Trump’s cabinet, who wants control of Greenland, Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen announced Friday that Denmark has agreed to talk with Washington on the Arctic region, reports Breaking News.
The Danish Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that Rasmussen and Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a 20-minute discussion in a “good and constructive tone” about Ukraine, European security, and the Middle East crisis.
Trump has shown a desire to include Denmark’s autonomous province of Greenland in the US. He hasn’t ruled out influencing Denmark to turn it over with economic or military might, reports Breaking News.

Trump has prioritised Greenland because of its strategic location along the quickest path from Europe to North America, which is essential for the US ballistic missile warning system.
“Arctic security was not on the agenda, but it was agreed that it will be discussed between the United States, Denmark and Greenland at a later date, the Danish ministry said, reports Breaking News.
Mute Egede, the prime minister of Greenland, who has intensified his campaign for independence, has stated over and again that the island is not for sale and that its citizens should make the final decisions.
Many Danes are surprised by Trump’s unwillingness to rule out the use of economic or military force, even if he previously hinted at the idea of annexing Greenland in 2019, reports Breaking News.
Mette Frederiksen, the prime minister of Denmark, stated on January 15 that she had called Trump and informed him that Greenland should make the final decision about potential independence.
