The Chief Executive of Re-Turn has said that despite People are gradually adjusting to the Deposit Return Scheme after experiencing some “teething issues” during the first month.

Ciaran Foley said the plan has started well, but that deposits were being charged on goods where they shouldn’t have been during the first week of operation, on RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne.

“We’ve made a very solid start, I think we acknowledge, and we always knew, there’d be some difficulties during the transition period in particular,” reports RTE.

According to Mr. Foley, Ireland is compared to the Slovakian programme, which come into effect in 2022, because of their comparable demographics.

He stated that returns are already “well ahead” of the first several weeks of the Slovakian programme.

“They took back 264,000 in their first month, we actually took back over two million,” he said, adding they took in “353,000 on Saturday alone”, reports RTE.

“People seem to be getting used to it, and feedback from retailers is that’s what they’re seeing,” he said, reports RTE.
