Deputy CMO says we may not need to extend period between vaccine doses

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn has said that there may be no need to extend the period of time between vaccine doses.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Glynn said that no decision has been made on the spacing of doses and as of yet no advice has been issued to the Government.

Dr Glynn said that NPHET needs to wait on what advice the European Medicines Agency will give on the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and any potential decision would be based on the advice given.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer added that adding an extended period would have both pros and cons as it could mean out vaccination programme would take longer to complete.
