Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has called for the chemical castration of seven Egyptian migrants who stand accused of gang raping a native girl in Sicily.
The migrant gang, all aged between 15 and 19, entered Italy illegally between 2021 and 2023 as “unaccompanied minors”, a loophole used and abused by migrants and set upon a 13-year-old girl and her boyfriend on January 30th of this year as they walked in a park in Catania, Sicily La Republica reported.
The pair were forced into a public toilet where two the migrants raped the child while the others held down her boyfriend, forcing him to watch.
Deputy Prime Minister Salvini has announced his party, La Lega, will soon put forth a proposal to in the Italian Parliament to introduce as a punishment for sever instances of sexual violence.
Salvini is supported in his stance by fellow La Lega member and MEP Annalisa Tardino who also said that the suspects should ‘repatriated immediately’ adding ‘In Egypt they would never have allowed such behaviour.’
Italy has bore the brunt of hundreds of thousands of migrants illegally arriving after crossing the Mediterranean and in 2022 Giorgia Meloni was elected Prime Minister after her party Brothers of Italy swept the polls, in the hopes that she would crackdown on illegal migration,
So far, she has proven to be abysmal failure in reducing illegal migration into the country, further radicalising the nationalist sentiment in the country.
