Derry’s GAA manager Rory Gallagher has announced that he is to step back from his role “with immediate effect”.
The SDLP had demanded Gallagher to step aside following serious allegations by his former wife, reports RTE.
Gallagher said: “I have advised Derry GAA that I am stepping back as Derry Senior football Manager with immediate effect.
“This decision is borne out of a desire to protect my children from the ongoing turmoil. They will always be my priority.”, reports RTE.
Gallagher said in a statement through his solicitor saying he had been “made aware of a social media post by my estranged wife in which she has made a number of very serious allegations against me”.
He added: “Allegations against me have been investigated and dealt with by the relevant authorities”, reports RTE.
Nicola Gallagher, Rory Gallagher’s former wife, claimed she had been the victim of domestic violence over a period of years during their marriage, in a social media post on Facebook earlier this week.
