Warzone – the word described by the walking wounded last night in Our Lady Of Lourdes A&E department in Drogheda, Co. Louth.
Approaching midnight last night, there were a total of 31 people packed into a small emergency waiting area, with patients being told they wouldn’t be seen by a doctor for 6 hours.
One man said that his 96-yr-old relative had been waiting from the afternoon and had just been seen at midnight and told she’d be staying the night.
Doctors and nurses were said to be under immense pressure with a huge increase in numbers with people coming to the hospital from as far as Cavan.
One hospital worker said:
“If possible, avoid the hospital over Christmas as the numbers will only go up”, she said.
