
Five young people have tragically died and three others have been badly injured in a road crash in Dundalk in Co Louth.
The two young men and three young women who died were all aged under 25.
They were from various areas around the north east, including Carrickmacross, Drumcondrath, and one girl from Scotland.
They were all travelling in a Volkswagen Golf car which crashed with a Toyota Land Cruiser on the Ardee road at Gibstown just after 9pm on Saturday night.
The Liberal understands that another man, aged in his 20s, who was also travelling in the Volkswagen Golf was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda where he remains stable with bad but non life threatening injuries.
Two people who were in the Toyota Land Cruiser were also rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes with non-life-threatening injuries.
The road remains closed today with gardai doing a number of investigations.
The entire northeast and beyond is numb from the tragedy.
