Irish Rail have revealed plans to establish a direct train link to Dublin Airport.

David Franks, the company’s Chief Executive, has said that he would like to lay new tracks for intercity trains from Cork, Galway and Belfast.

Such project would have a cost of around €300m, and could be completed within five years.

It is estimated that three million passengers per year would use the service.
