
According to reports issued last night it is understood that a total of 20 people will appear in court in relation to charges made against them after they took part in a water charge protest which resulted in the Tánaiste Joan Burton being trapped in her car for over two hours in Tallaght at the end of last year.
It has been have reported that the Director of Public Prosecutions has ordered that all those who were arrested during the protest be charged with various offences, including violent disorder, false imprisonment, criminal damage and offences under public order legislation.
The offences occurred last October when Ms Burton attended a public speaking event in Tallaght to outline proposals regarding the then upcoming water charges. Gardaí where then called to the scene to escort Ms Burton from the scene after a large group of protesters arrived to voice their disapproval regarding the water charges.
