AIB Bank has introduced new measures that will make it nearly impossible for workers to buy their own homes.
According to the Irish Times, AIB has put a dead-stop to the mortgage hopes of anyone who was forced to go onto the Government’s Covid emergency payments. It’s also not looking good for people working in jobs that might be risky in the future because the bank will be keeping a close eye on them too.
One mother told us that she was looking forward to getting a mortgage to get some security for her three children.
“I just feel cheated,” she told us. “Me and my husband already had our eye on a house and making plans kept us all going during the lockdown. How are we supposed to tell the children that we won’t be moving after all?”
She told us that loads of families are going to be in the same boat.
“It’s just not on,” she said. “We bailed the banks out a few years ago and this is how they repay us.”
