A family in Co Donegal have been left outraged after their 91-year-old relative was left to wait over 13 hours at an A&E Department before being discharged.
According to The Irish Mirror newspaper, the appalling incident which occurred at Letterkenny General Hospital has been highlighted by the family in the hope that a similar situation can be avoided in the future.
The Irish Mirror say the 91-year-old woman was brought to A&E on Monday complaining of stomach pains at approximatley 1:50pm.
It is understood that the woman was left to lie in the A&E Department before she was seen by two doctors who then discharged her the following morning at 3am.
Although the woman was attended to she was not given a bed but instead sent home with her family.
The appalling incident comes as the hospital has experienced serious overcrowding problems which has in turn led to a public notice being issued in the past week, calling on the public not the to attend it’s A&E Department unless it was necessary.
