Thanks to the fast thinking and fast acting of Fire services in Drogheda, Co. Louth, a historic pub known locally as “The Thatch” was saved today from a suspected arson attack.
The 200-yr-old building was only restored last year after a five year campaign was undertaken to bring the pub back to its former glory.
A sickening arson attack took place around 6am on Saturday morning but luckily the Fire Brigade managed to rush to the scene and only 5 foot of thatch was burned in the attack.
It’s understood that no structural damage occurred and that restoration for the building will commence in the coming days.
Local man Richard Whyte told The Liberal:
“The town is outraged, people can’t believe that someone would do such an atrocious thing for no reason whatsoever.”
A garda investigation is underway as to who did this dispicable incident.
Anyone with information can contact the Drogheda garda station or the Confidential Line on 1800-66-61-11.
