Disgraceful: Former Irish Water boss, John Tierney to receive gigantic €300,000 tax-free pay off

In a disgusting state of affairs, the former Managing Director of Irish Water, John Tierney will get a gargantuan tax-free pay off if €300,000.

Tierney officially stepped down from Irish Water in April after three years at the head of the company that oversaw the implementation of water charges.

A former Dublin City manager, he worked in local government for 36 years before joining Irish Water and was paid €200,000 per annum when he was appointed by the former environment minister Phil Hogan.

As with all senior civil servants and semi-state chiefs, he is entitled to a severance package worth one and-a-half times his salary on retirement, this means the taxpayer will have to shell out €100,000 to Tierney… indefinitely.

A number of TD’s are said to be unaware of Tierney’s salary let alone this enormous payout.

One was quoted off the record as saying “he has practically won the lotto”.

What do you think of the Irish Water boss’ payout and retirement money?
