Disgraceful: Louth County Council demand restaurant owner removes new sign because it’s too bright and too big even though he’s spent thousands of euro on it

In what can only be described as utterly preposterous, Louth County Council is putting its bureaucratic foot down on one Drogheda restaurant owner due to a new shop sign frontage.

It must be noted that the owner of this restaurant is very well gotten in Drogheda, and in the past, has given many free meals to homeless people, alongside sheltering them during bad weather.

Fissal, the owner of restaurant ‘Casanova’, located on the North Quay in Drogheda, told The Liberal:
“This has been going on for months now. We needed a new sign, the restaurant painted a new corrugated canopy so people could sit outside, even if it’s raining.”

“We did just that, we replaced the sign with a new lit-up sign, essentially the same size as before hand, painted the restaurant and had a little canopy roof installed. This racked up a cost of €6,000 for the lit-up sign alone.”

“Before we knew it, LCC contacted us demanding we remove it and apply for planning permission immediately, which we had done – at a cost of €4,000.”

“We’ve been in contact with LCC for months now, but they are still demanding we remove the sign. Surely, someone should see sense about and that we’re actually trying to improve the area.”

“All our customers are delighted with the new look, many of whom say they feel safer as the sign lights up the area a little bit, including the car park in front of the restaurant”.

This is just another example of how ludicrous decisions are made in relation to planning permission etc from councils around the country, especially when business owners are improving their property for customers and residents alike.
