Disgraceful: Over 55,000 adults became homeless in Ireland between 2014 and 2023

From 2014 to 2023, more than 55,000 individuals (55,367) experienced homelessness and were placed in emergency accommodations, as per a recent Focus Ireland study, reports Breaking News.

“Alarming statistics for homelessness since 2014” are included in Focus Ireland’s most recent study, “Focus on Homelessness – a Decade of Homelessness data,” which was released on Friday morning.

The study provides a thorough analysis of the dynamics and trends surrounding homelessness during the last ten years, “highlighting the urgent need for continued and enhanced efforts to address the crisis” and offering important new insights, reports Breaking News.

According to the report’s authors, Focus Ireland policy officer Emma Byrne, director of advocacy at Focus Ireland, and professor Eoin O’Sullivan of Trinity College Dublin, the study highlights how crucial it is to comprehend these tendencies in order to guide policy and action.

The report’s principal conclusions include:

– Between 2014 and 2023, more than 55,000 individuals (55,367) experienced homelessness and were placed in emergency housing.
– There has been a concerning trend of adults spending longer periods of time homeless, as seen by the 579 percent rise of adults staying in emergency housing for longer than six months since 2014.
– In the 10 years between 2014 and 2023, around 30,000 individuals moved out of emergency housing and into private rentals with housing assistance payments or social housing tenancies.
– With 6,462 persons accessing emergency accommodation for the first time in 2023, it was the year with the most new adults entering in the previous ten years, reports Breaking News.
