The statue paying tribute to Luke Kelly has once again been targeted by vandals this evening.
In images shared by Councillor Christy Burke on Facebook, the statue which is located on Sheriff Street is shown to have sprayed on black glasses and marks spray painted on its cheeks.
In a post on Facebook, Councillor Burke stated that he was disgusted by the act.
Cllr Burke wrote: “This man was a great ambassador to this country. This man was a local hero.”
“I’m calling the individual who done this Luke to show some dignity and respect, you’ve brought an insult to Luke, his family and the area. Shame on you!!”
“For over 20 years I fought hard to have this erected, I’m disgusted.”
The latest incident is the second act of vandalism in recent months after the statue was Vandalised last summer.
