The Department of Housing’s most recent statistics shows that the number of homeless people has increased once more, reports RTE.

In September, 14,760 individuals were in emergency housing.

The number of persons who sought emergency housing increased by 57 in August, but it jumped by 274 last month, reports RTE.

“Out of the 52 monthly homeless reports during this Government’s tenure, homelessness has increased 41 times and a new record has been set 23 times.”

Labour said, “It’s nothing short of a national crisis,” reports RTE.

Labour has called for “urgent action” in response to the most recent statistics on homelessness.

Ivana Bacik, the party’s leader, spoke about 4,561 children who were growing up without a home.

“It is simply unacceptable, and it speaks to a Government that has consistently failed to deliver on its promises,” she said, r
