A zoo in France have been left outraged after two people scratched there names into the back of a rhino.
According to reports in France, the shocking incident occurred at La Palmyre zoo which is located 500km South of Paris.
It is believed that the two individuals etched the names Camille and Julien into the 35-year-old rhino’s hide.
Although the animal is thought not to have suffered any pain, staff at the zoo have have described the act as appalling and highly disrespectful.
The incident apparently occurred when the two visitors got up close to the fence of the rhino’s enclosure.
Although it is considered normal practice at the zoo for the public to interact with the animals, it is understood that the individuals decided to go a step further and scratch their names into the rhino’s dead skin.
The incident has now led to management to discuss the possiblity of putting CCTV in the area of the enclosure.
Another example why zoos and circuses with animals should go. Imbeciles in a French Zoo in La Palmyre carved their names in the skin of a Rhino. Only in zoos a Rhino can be approached as if it was a domesticated animal. pic.twitter.com/GpFrGMuNkQ
