Fans of the Avatar series will have to wait a little longer to return to the lush world of Pandora, as Disney has confirmed that the next installment in the franchise will hit the screens in 2021 -a full year later than originally planned.
Disney now own the rights to the Avatar IP, after the company acquired Fox earlier this year.
2009’s Avatar, directed by James Cameron, remains as the highest-grossing film of all time.
Avatar 2 will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. At least three more sequels are planned afterwards, running all the way through to 2027.
