Disruption to hit rail travellers in August

Siptu workers at Irish Rail have balloted for strike action.

Irish Rail announced earlier this month that it will implement what the company referred to as “temporary” pay cuts. Such cuts would last for 25 months, according to official sources. If these measures are not implemented, the company added, the outcome would be redundancies and line closures.

Unless the cuts are reversed, workers will begin a work-to-rule on August 24, followed by a one day stoppage on August 25. Thousands of commuters might be affected by these actions.

This dispute is ongoing.
