Twelve-hour ceasefire underway in Gaza

A 12-hour ceasefire to allow humanitarian efforts came into effect in Gaza at 5 a.m. this morning. Over 80 bodies have reportedly been pulled from the rubble since the truce began.

Further airstrikes took place in the hour leading up to the agreed ceasefire, however, killing at least 23 people, 4 children and a paramedic among these. The total Palestinian death toll since operations began 19 days ago is nearly 1,000.

US Secretary of State John Kerry had pushed for a 7-day long ceasefire but was unsuccessful in his negotiations. Diplomatic efforts are on going to try and bring about an end to the conflict.
