Divorce amendment referendum to take place on May 24th




The Irish public will once again take to the polling stations this year as the Minister Eoghan Murphy confirmed that the divorce referendum will take place on May 24th.

In a referendum that could change current divorce proceedings laws, voters will be asked to vote in favor or against making an amendment to the the Constitution contained in the Thirty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution (Dissolution of Marriage) Bill 2016.

If passed the new laws will mean that couples will no longer be required to wait four years to begin divorce proceedings, but instead it will be reduced to a minimum of two years.

It is has been confirmed that polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Friday May 24th.
