The US Secret Service has confirmed that the White House was briefly put into lockdown after a man set himself in fire on the front lawn.
According to NBC Washington, the lockdown was put in place after a man sitting in an electronic mobility scooter lit his jacket on fire.
Although officers and security personnel responded immediately, it is believed that a suspicious package was discovered near the man.
Meanwhile White House officals confirmed the incident which occurred at approximately 3:15pm local time, by saying that the man involved had been arrested by officers and taken to nearby hospital for treatment.
However it is believed that his injuries are not life-threatening.
Reports say President Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident, but White House officials say he wasn’t in any immediate danger.
