Divorce rate soars by 29% during the “Year of the Covid 2020” with women making more diverse applications than men




In it’s latest report, The Irish Courts Service has released an alarming statistic, reporting that divorce applications have increased by a massive 29% in 2020 over the previous year. 2020 was the year where Ireland experienced the severest Covid lockdowns seeing many families working for home for the first time.

A total of 5,266 applications for divorce were made in the High Court and circuit court in 2020, compared to 4073 in the previous year.

Almost 3,000 applications applications were made by women and 2,265 were made by men.
