A total of 49 people have been given closure after DNA results proved that a fertility doctor used his own sperm to inseminate patients.
The extraordinary case which occurred in Rotterdam, came to light after a group took legal action following suspicions that were related to Dr Jan Karbaat.
Dr Karbaat who died in 2017, was alleged to have fathered the children after he falsified data, analyses and donor descriptions.
However despite records from the case being sealed until similar court cases, Dutch authorities finally made the results of the DNA tests public on Friday.
It is believed the case was brought to court after one of the children born to Karbaat became suspicious given the similarities in their physical appearance.
Reports in the Netherlands say a number of similar cases were reported at around the same time.
Dr Karbaat’s practice was officially closed in 2009 amid allegations surrounding his practice.
