Varadkar criticises John Delaney Oireachtas appearance over lack of clarity

There was a lot of criticism laid at John Delaney’s door this week after he appeared at the Oireachtas committee. Mr Delaney was precluded from answering any direct questions on why he loaned €100,000 to the FAI, something that legally he is 100% entitled to do.

The Taoiseach Leo varadkar has criticised the appearance of the former FAI Chief at the meeting in which he said that the public, the taxpayer and football fans would like to know just why exactly Delaney had to loan €100,000 to the FAI.

He said that he accepted the fact that Delaney legally didn’t have to answer any questions, and he wasn’t a public servant so we didn’t have to answer anything to the Oireachtas either, but the public, taxpayers and football fans all deserve an answer.
