According to Met Éireann, June 2025 was the fourth hottest June ever recorded, reports Breaking News.
The peak temperature for the month was 29.6°C, observed in Mount Dillon, Co Roscommon on June 20th, marking the highest temperature seen so far this year.
Average temperatures for June varied from 13.7 °C (1.2 °C above its long-term average) at Knock Airport, Co Mayo to 15.6 °C (1.7 °C above its long-term average) in Phoenix Park, Co Dublin, reports Breaking News.
During the final third of the month, Europe experienced intense heat due to a powerful high-pressure system settling over the continent, sparking heatwave conditions.
While the core of the heat affected mainland Europe, Ireland remained on the cloudier northern fringe of this weather system, which led to unusually warm nights, contributing to the higher-than-average temperatures for June overall, reports Breaking News.
All of Ireland’s hottest Junes have occurred in the past two decades, specifically in the years 2023, 2018, 2010, and 2006, with June 2023 being the hottest on record.
June’s average temperature this year was 15.10 °C.
It was also the most rainfall-heavy June since 2022, and ranks as the 24th wettest June since 1941, reports Breaking News.
Monthly rainfall amounts varied from 56 percent of normal levels, with the lowest monthly total of 47.0 mm recorded at Cork Airport, Co Cork, to 206 percent of the normal, with the highest monthly total of 165.0 mm at Athenry, Co Galway.
The highest single-day rainfall total occurred on Saturday, June 14th, with 42.6 mm recorded at Casement Aerodrome, Co Dublin.
