A dog that vanished almost two weeks ago from an island off the coast of Donegal has been discovered alive and well, perched on a rock, reports The Mirror.

On August 16, Mali, a Bernese Mountain dog, disappeared while being walked close to the lighthouse on Arranmore Island in County Donegal. She had slipped her leash.

The dog had been startled by strong gusts, according to her German owner Sarah Recinos Ralda, who was vacationing in Ireland with her family. Despite several searches, they were almost certain they wouldn’t locate her alive.

That is, until Saturday afternoon, two weeks later, when Michael Boyle, who was cruising the island on a pleasure boat, heard Mali barking. Belfast Live said that he set off the alarm, and North West Charters captain John Paul Baskin turned down the engine in an attempt to identify the source of the barking, reports The Mirror.

They were as shocked to see the eight-stone dog on rocks as everyone else on the island, even though they knew Mali was missing.

John Paul told Donegal Daily: “It was a very good day and we decided to go around the island for a bit of fishing. Nobody would have been around that part of the island for a while because of the poor weather recently. One of the lads, Michael Boyle, said he thought he heard a dog barking and I thought he was having us on because we all knew everyone was looking for Mali. He said he was serious and we turned off the engine and we could hear the barking clearly. It was hard to spot her because she is black and the cliffs are dark and it was only because of the small patch of white on her chest that we could see her,” reports The Mirror.
