François-Henri Pinault and Bernard Arnault, two of France’s wealthiest men, have pledged to donate a total of €300m between them to aid in the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral.
The 12-century building was gutted by fire on Monday evening. The blaze ripped through the cathedral and destroyed its spire and roof, but the two towers and interior remain relatively unharmed.
Further gigantic donations of €20, €50 and €80 million have been pledged to restore the Cathedral to its beautiful former glory.
French authorities claim that the fire is thought to have started accidentally but no conclusive explanation has yet been confirmed.
