Don’t go near that hosepipe! Nationwide ban extends until the end of August

It’s the hottest summer in decades with temps topping 30c many times across the country.

Irish Water initially confirmed localised hosepipe bans, but that quickly escalated nationally and the water utility has confirmed that the current nationwide hosepipe ban has been extended to the end up August.ust.

The extension remains in place now until the 31st of August at least, and it’s understood that the ban is to conserve water supplies as best as possible.

The latest announcement comes as the hosepipe ban was implemented earlier this month.

Irish Water say the extension of the ban is required as reviews of a number of local water supplies around the country have revealed that water levels are critically low despite some rainfall in recent weeks.

It is expected that water levels will remain critically low throughout the month of August and the current hosepipe ban could be potentially extended until September.

However Irish Water have confirmed that another review of water supplies will take place at the August before any further decisions are made.

Meanwhile residents in the greater Dublin area will also be subjected to night-time water restrictions for at least another two weeks, the company confirmed.

Irish Water say the level 2 night-time water restrictions are required in the greater Dublin area as water levels have not significantly improved.

The restrictions will continue to see water pressure reduced between the hours 10pm and 5am.

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning but yields much hope that enough rain will fall to bring levels back up to where they should be. Thankfully for those of us who don’t want to see rainfall, the downpours are mainly expected to fall during nighttime hours with the outlook looking pretty decent again from midweek onward.
