In the next budget, Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys has intimated that there won’t be any increases to the jobseeker’s allowance and that there would probably be a double child benefit payment, reports Breaking News.
Seniors, carers, and those with disabilities ought to be given priority in the Budget 2025, according to Ms. Humphreys.
She described the Christmas double child benefit payment as “very popular,” adding that few individuals did not require it because food and other expenses were still very expensive.

The minister stated that she does not think there is a policy justification for raising welfare payments to people who are long-term jobless when Ireland is still experiencing full employment, reports Breaking News.
She drew attention to a recent modification to the benefits available to job searchers, which provides that those fired would get a greater rate of payment over a three-month period based on their wage.
“There are a tonne of opportunities for long-term unemployed people to accept job offers,” the speaker stated.
She said that it would cost €1.5 billion to raise all social welfare payments by €20.
“I think it’s important that we support people in the budget that can’t work. So some people with disabilities can’t work. Some of them can, and we’re trying to help them in that area too, but generally speaking, people with severe disabilities cannot work. People who are caring, they’re providing a service, and they’re helping somebody to remain in their home, and they often can’t work. Pensioners, they have they have done their piece. They have worked hard over their lives, and now they’re retiring,” reports Breaking News.
