Dinker and Dilraj Varikkassery, identical twins brothers had a double wedding, However, that’s not the interesting part of this story. The two brides were identical twins, as were the grooms, flowergirls, page boys, bridesmaids and even the priests. The odd wedding was held in Thrissur, Kerala State on India’s west coast. Their perfect day was the result of a five year search for the most identical sisters they could find.

The brothers knew they would marry identical twin sisters since high school. They were inseperable, wearing the same clothes and even achieving the same grades in exams. After college the two worked at the same company. However, work did eventually tear the twins apart. ‘For the first time our life, we were separated after starting our professional career. I was posted in north India, while the company sent Dilraj to the extreme south,’ said 32-year-old Dinker.

Five years ago the twins started the search for wives together. ‘But there was a problem: ‘The twins were not identical enough. Also, we had to find twins who came from the similar family backgrounds.’ Dinker said. Reena and Rema were their perfect match. They too wanted to marry twins. ‘We had to keep searching the suitable boys for three years in a row. When we saw Dilraj and Dinker we nodded yes to each other. It was a wonderful experience.’

The couples hunted down twin priests Rezi and Rozy Manaparambil to solemnise their marriage, but the pair were booked up for 6 months. The priests travelled 600km from Chennai to Thrissur for the ceremony on November 8.
The identical flower girls Ansa and Asna and page boys Henry and Hendri came from the their neighbourhood. In total, seven sets of twins attended the ceremony, held at St. Xavier’s Church, in the small town of Pullur.
