Dr Ronan Glynn says parents should not arrange play dates and avoid school gate congregations

Parents across the country have been warned not to congregate at school datesĀ  or to arrange play dates when children return to school next week.

In an open letter the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn, called on parents to continue to adhere to public health guidelines and avoid congregating and household mixing.

In the letter Dr Glynn warned that although schools will return on a phased basis next week, now is not the time to relax and undermine the progress in surpressing the virus.

Glynn said that there are concerns that parents will take the reopening as a sign that household mixing and increased mobility was now acceptable.

He added that this cannot happen as Covid-19 is still circulating at high levels in our communities.
