A major criminal investigation is currently taking place into a fire at an abandoned hotel in Co Galway that was scheduled to house 70 male international protection applicants, reports RTE.
Over the weekend, protesters formed a blockade to oppose the government’s plan to accommodate asylum seekers at the Ross Lake Hotel in Rosscahill.
On Saturday night, a fire occurred at the hotel, prompting the police to conduct an investigation into what they deemed as a criminal damage incident, reports RTE.
Commissioner Drew Harris stated during a Policing Authority meeting that the police had not received any official notification regarding the proposal to house asylum seekers at the disused hotel in Galway, which was subsequently burned down.
