Drink prices set to go up soon as the Health Minister is looking to get alcohol Bill passed before the end of Autumn

The Minister for Health Simon Harris is pushing hard for the immediate immediate introduction of the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill.

Mr Harris who is strongly in favour of the Bill that will see prices raised on units of alcohol in shops and off-licences, has said all those in the Seanad must get behind the Bill that will be beneficial to public health.

Mr Harris said he was calling on all political parties and Independents in particular to support the Bill which he hopes to have passed by the end of Autumn.

However the Bill has drawn some criticism in recent weeks as small business owners and those heavily involved in the drinks industry have said the new legislation will seriously harm sales which could result in an increased financial pressure.
