In a long-awaited breakthrough, Dublin Airport has officially scrapped the infamous 100ml liquid restriction, ushering in a new era of hassle-free security screening. Effective from midnight on September 19, 2025, passengers departing from both terminals can now carry up to two litres of liquids, gels, and aerosols in their hand luggage without the need for clear plastic bags or size limits on individual containers. Electronics like laptops can also remain packed, thanks to the rollout of advanced C3 scanners.

This multi-million-euro upgrade by the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) replaces outdated X-ray machines with cutting-edge CT-like technology, capable of generating 3D images for enhanced threat detection. “Passengers have long looked forward to the day the 100ml rule would be gone—and today is that day,” declared Gary McLean, Dublin Airport’s Managing Director. The change aligns with EU aviation security advancements, making Dublin one of Europe’s pioneers in efficient screening.

However, travelers should note that rules vary abroad; those returning to Dublin must check their departure airport’s policies, as many UK and European hubs still enforce the old limits. Essential items like baby milk or medication remain exempt and can exceed two liters with documentation.

This reform not only boosts convenience but also reduces queues, improving the overall passenger experience at Ireland’s busiest airport. With over 30 new scanners installed, Dublin is now on par with global leaders in aviation security.
