GardaĆ have reiterated their warning that anyone withholding information about the disappearance of schoolboy Kyran Durnin may be committing a criminal offence, reports The Mirror.

It has also been revealed that the investigation is facing setbacks following the death of a man who had been arrested in connection with the case.

Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern issued a renewed appeal yesterday for anyone who may have information about Kyran’s disappearance to come forward, reports The Mirror.

Investigators believe that several individuals are aware of what happened to the boy and may know the location of his remains but are not cooperating with the authorities.

Kyran, who would be nine years old now, was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth in August last year, reports The Mirror.

The case was later reclassified as a murder inquiry after GardaĆ formed the belief that the child had been killed.

It is understood that more searches are expected to take place, and further arrests in the case are considered likely.

Speaking at a memorial service for murdered Garda Tony Golden in Haggardstown, Co Louth, Chief Superintendent McGovern made a public appeal for assistance, reports The Mirror.

He stated: “A number of arrests have been made and intrusive searches have been carried out, and our senior investigating officer and his team are working hard in the case. But we are appealing for anyone with information in relation to Kyran Durnin to come forward and a reminder that anyone withholding information may be committing a criminal offence,” reports The Mirror.

The most recent known images of Kyran were taken in June 2022, when he was six years old.

However, progress in the case has been complicated by the death of a man, believed to have died by suicide, who had been linked to the investigation, reports The Mirror.

GardaĆ have confirmed that over 570 individual lines of inquiry have been followed, and two people—a man and a woman—were arrested on suspicion of murder.

One of the individuals arrested was a woman in her 20s, who is believed to have had a connection to Kyran, reports The Mirror.

A 36-year-old man was also taken into custody as GardaĆ carried out a detailed search of a house and its adjoining gardens in a Drogheda housing estate.

Both suspects were later released without charge, reports The Mirror.
