Dublin Bus driver gets sacked for using his mobile phone

A former Dublin Bus driver who was fired for breaking the company’s “zero-tolerance” policy on using a mobile phone while driving twice in less than a year, has been reinstated as a taxi driver, according to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), reports RTE.

Yong Yue Wang appeared before the WRC seeking relief under the Unfair Dismissals Act 1977, with the aim of getting his job back at the public transport firm after being dismissed for gross misconduct in September 2022.

The tribunal heard that Mr. Wang was already on a final written warning for a prior mobile phone incident when a bus inspector reported seeing him driving a number 15B bus with his left hand on the steering wheel and a mobile phone in his right hand in Dublin 2 in July 2022, reports RTE.
