Eighty-five routes will connect locations as far north as Buncrana in County Donegal and as far south as Kinsale in County Cork as part of Ireland’s proposed National Cycle Network, reports RTE.
More than 3,500 km of bikeways will connect more than 200 cities, towns, and villages.
This morning, the Grand Canal Greenway in Co Kildare, close to Sallins, served as the official launchpad for the initiative, reports RTE.
The routes, which are being built with educational institutions, business districts, tourism hotspots, and other transport hubs in mind, are anticipated to assist over 2.8 million people.
The government anticipates that the corridors will enable it to meet its goal of cutting transportation-related emissions by 51% by 2030, albeit it will take until 2040 to finish building the entire network, reports RTE.
