Dublin clamper thugs tow two cars with small children in back seat as ‘screaming’ mother chases them down

Two small children in the back seats of the cars were towed away in separate accidents.

The vehicles were moved in April by Dublin Street Parking Services, a company hired by the City Council to enforce parking rules, reports The Mirror.

In the first case, a vehicle with a two-year-old child was stopped on Dublin 7. The mother chased the lorry ‘screaming’ before it came to a stop.

The four-year-old was in the back seat of another car being towed from near Fairview to Ballybough before the lorry driver realized the child was in the back seat.

It is understood that the Garda have responded to the incident. A source blamed DSPS’s policy of “rewarding” employees for keeping large numbers of cars.

They said: “These are not isolated issues. If you reward staff for clamp number achieved, this is the result. Dublin City Council are well aware of the reward scheme,” reports The Mirror.

A spokeswoman said: “Dublin City Council are aware of the issues raised and have engaged with DSPS regarding this. A meeting was also held between DSPS and An Garda Siochana to review the procedures in place for when a vehicle is being removed. Following this review additional safeguards are now in place to help prevent any reoccurrence of this issue,” reports The Mirror.
