Some of the large winners, like a Dublin family Lotto syndicate, picked up their rewards at Lotto HQ, but the group’s chairman said they’ll “still be shopping in Penney’s,” reports The Mirror.

Excitement was in the air at the National Lottery Headquarters when three sets of winners picked up their sizable winnings.

One of them was the four-member Dublin family syndicate, who received a €1,000,000 cheque for their winnings from the Lotto Jackpot Draw on Saturday, September 28, reports The Mirror.

The leader of the Dublin syndicate, who bought the winning ticket at Spar in Tallaght’s The Square Shopping Centre, remembered the moment he realised they had won.

When he checked the ticket early on Sunday morning, he was astounded by what he saw. “I burst into my daughter’s room, startling her awake, and said, ‘Here quick, rub your eyes and check that!,” reports The Mirror.

In astonishment and stillness, the two sat across from one other while the daughter examined the data. Not too long later, another syndicate member showed up, having spent the previous weekend mingling.

“Any headache I had from the weekend soon disappeared when I got the news that we’d won €1 million!” he laughed. The head of the syndicate admitted he hadn’t stopped trembling since discovering their win, reports The Mirror.

He tucked the ticket away in his closet beneath t-shirts for security, then called the National Lottery Claims Team first thing on Monday morning. The windfall will be divided equally among the family members, with €250,000 going to everyone.

The syndicate head laughed and said, “No, I’ll still be shopping in Penney’s,” when asked whether they had any plans to indulge. The celebration will include a special meal and international travel, which the family is looking forward to.

A syndicate from Cork also claimed a noteworthy reward, taking home €262,554 from their victory in the EuroMillions, reports The Mirror.
