An award has been given to Dublin Fire Brigade members for saving a cat in Ballyfermot, reports RTE.
After saving a cat named Biscuit from a home fire, firemen from D Watch at Dolphin’s Barn Fire Station received the Hero to Animals award from animal advocacy group PETA.
After being discovered unresponsive, Biscuit received oxygen from the crew and recovered completely, reports RTE.
“After ten minutes, Biscuit was snuggling into its owner after Firefighter ‘Paw’amedic Carrick put a pet oxygen mask on Biscuit,” the Dublin Fire Brigade wrote in a post on X, reports RTE.
A dog and a budgie did not require oxygen therapy, yet they were saved.
Additionally, the Dublin Fire Brigade said that it is testing pet oxygen masks in two districts. These masks are now on nine fire engines, reports RTE.
The fire station described the rescue as a “team effort” and gave the crew a framed copy of the medal.
The firemen’ “compassionate deed” should encourage others to assist animals in need, said Elisa Allen, vice president of programs at PETA.
“Thanks to these firefighters’ heroic actions, what could have been a tragedy for Biscuit had a happy ending,” she added, reports RTE.
