In an unusual move by a politician, Clare O’Byrne, a Green Party councillor for South Dublin County and the Firhouse-Bohernabreena electoral area has resigned her seat on the council on International Women’s Day in protest that there is no maternity leave for female politicians.
According to DublinLive, Ms O’Byrne said “Unfortunately, with the arrival of my firstborn, I have come to realise the impossibility of balancing my role as a new mother with that of a councillor”.
Ms O’Byrne was co-opted onto the Council to replace Francis Noel Duffy on 24th February 2020 so did not run for local election in her area according to www.whoismytd.com
