A young person from Dublin will go on trial for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting a girl after they connected on the social media platform Snapchat, reports Breaking News.
The 17-year-old appeared at the Dublin Children’s Court preliminary hearing; for legal reasons, he cannot be recognised.
He must automatically proceed with the Central Criminal Court’s trial for the alleged rape, reports Breaking News.
The teenager did, however, have the right to request that the Children’s Court assume jurisdiction over the associated allegations of sexual assault and assault causing harm and hold a separate trial.
The defence’s request for two trials was denied by the Director of Public Prosecutions, reports Breaking News.
