Dublin thug who stabbed best friend in the face for no reason gets jailed

A man who put a blade of a knife “clean through the cheek” of his friend for no obvious reason has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.

Carl Corr, 34, left a hole in his victim’s cheek through which he could feel his tongue after a nasty attack on June 19, 2021, Dublin County Court heard.

The pair had been sitting together in a pub before the attack. The victim was in the garden two houses away from Core working on his car when Core arrived, leaned over the garden gate and stabbed the man with a 15-inch kitchen knife, causing a laceration.

The pair had discussed drugs prior to the attack, and the victim said he did not use drugs. Core was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time, the court heard.

Core, of Perlickstown Drive in Dublin, pleaded guilty to assaulting David Fox, who lives at the same address. He has two previous convictions, reports The Mirror.

Judge Orla Crowe said it was a very serious assault that was at the high end of the Section 3 assault scale.

The judge noted that the facial cut “penetrated right through into his mouth cavity” and Mr Fox was “presumably left scarred for life as a result of this assault”.

“Crack cocaine led this man for no apparent reason to lean over the garden gate and swing at his friend with a knife and stab him in the right cheek,” she said, reports The Mirror.

Sentencing Core today, she said, “I have to assess this matter, and it is a very serious assault; the court is of the view that it does warrant a custodial sentence,” reports The Mirror.
