Dunnes Stores has issued an urgent recall of one of its well-known bakery products due to a labeling error that could pose a health hazard for certain customers, reports The Mirror.
The supermarket is advising anyone who purchased the item in question to stop consuming it right away and return it to any Dunnes location for a full refund. Proof of purchase is not necessary.
The recall affects Dunnes Stores Luxury Apple Tart, priced at €4.99, with batch number 242 and a best before date of June 16, 2025, reports The Mirror.
Although the label states it is an apple tart, the mislabelled packages actually contain the Luxury Pear and Almond Pie. As a result, almonds are present but not listed, posing a danger to individuals with nut allergies or sensitivities.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland confirmed the recall earlier today and advised anyone allergic to almonds not to consume the product.
A spokesperson said: “The above batch of Dunnes Stores Luxury Apple Pie is being recalled as some packs have been mispacked with Dunnes Stores Luxury Pear and Almond Pie. The product contains almonds which are not declared on the label. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of almonds, and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch,” reports The Mirror.
Dunnes Stores has apologised for the issue and is encouraging people not to eat the mispackaged item.
A spokesperson said: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused. Customers are advised not to consume this product, instead to return it to a Dunnes Stores store for a full refund. No receipt is required,” reports The Mirror.
Allergic reactions to almonds can differ in severity and may include skin irritation, digestive discomfort, or breathing issues. In serious cases, a potentially fatal reaction called anaphylaxis can occur.
Signs to look out for include hives, itchiness, facial swelling, stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea, and shortness of breath, reports The Mirror.
