The DUP’s Sammy Wilson has claimed that the only ever hard border on the island of Ireland was the result of actions by Republicans.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland Programme, Mr Wilson claimed that the border was only ever put in place due to the actions Republicans who wanted a United Ireland.
Mr Wilson who was responding to previous comments made by the DUP party leader Arlene Foster, who said there was never a hard border on the island of Ireland.
The DUP MP also claimed that Republicans caused a situation were checkpoints, watchtowers and army patrols to be implemented.
He added that the proposed idea of a hard border being implemented following Brexit is a con trick, claiming that not even 50,000 troops could impose a border.
