€2.1 million tender to supply body cameras to garda in four divisions

It has been estimated that the cost of providing body-worn cameras (BWCs) to gardaí in the first four divisions where they will be used will be in the vicinity of €2.1 million, reports RTE.

The process to acquire the cameras will involve a tender request, where suppliers will be invited to express an interest in one of the three contracts available, each of which is focused on the provision of BWCs in different areas.

Initially, the BWCs will be introduced in two Dublin divisions – DMR South Central (Pearse Street and Kevin Street) and DMR North Central (Store Street) – as well as the Waterford and Limerick divisions (Waterford and Henry Street stations).

These areas will be used to conduct “Proof of Concept” pilots before the cameras are issued nationally.

The cameras will be supplied by the top-ranked bidder of the contract for the two Dublin regions, and it is expected that they will be rolled out sometime between March and June of this year, reports RTE.
