People receiving social welfare payments are being reminded of an upcoming change to the payment schedule, with dates set to shift in the coming weeks.
Easter Monday falls on April 6, when banks and post offices will be closed, reports The Mirror.
As a result, those due to receive a social welfare payment on April 6 are expected to be paid earlier, likely on Friday, April 3 or Saturday, April 4.
Similarly, anyone due to receive Child Benefit on April 7 will probably receive it ahead of schedule on the Friday or Saturday to avoid delays caused by the bank holiday, reports The Mirror.
The remaining bank and public holidays in 2026 are as follows:
April 6 (Easter Monday)
May 4 (May bank holiday)
June 1 (June bank holiday)
August 3 (August bank holiday)
October 4 (October bank holiday)
December 25 (Christmas Day 2026)
December 26 (St Stephen’s Day 2026), reports The Mirror.
The update comes as the Department of Social Protection recently confirmed that Fuel Allowance has been extended to an additional 50,000 families.
Budget 2026 included provisions to expand the Fuel Allowance to those receiving Working Family Payment, reports The Mirror.
The measure will take effect next week and will be backdated to January, meaning 50,000 more households will now qualify for the support.
Newly eligible families are set to receive backdated payments of up to €380 on Thursday, 12 March, along with their weekly Working Family Payment, reports The Mirror.
From January 2026, the weekly Fuel Allowance rate increased by €5 to €38, bringing the annual total per recipient to €1,064.
Dara Calleary said: “An additional 50,000 working families are now eligible for the Fuel Allowance. This means that hardworking families across the country on lower incomes will receive additional help with their energy bills. I am delighted to have introduced this important expansion as part of my first budget.
“The Fuel Allowance plays a vital role in supporting families with their heating costs over the winter months. The expansion I am announcing today means there are over 470,000 households now receiving this valuable support.
“This is a targeted, practical intervention that will help working families manage energy costs and reduce financial pressure during the winter months, and it reflects a broader commitment: to ensure that work is rewarded, that families are supported, and that no child grows up in poverty, reports The Mirror.
