Eamon Dunphy has criticized RTE for paying its top earners “ridiculous money”, reports The Mirror.
The former pundit and podcaster is not surprised by the payments scandal and the proposed cost-cutting initiative to lay off 400 employees.
According to Dunphy, RTE has been poorly managed for many years, with money being wasted and people being overpaid.
“If you look at it as a pyramid, at the top of the pyramid is Joe Duffy and Claire Byrne. An awful lot of people were on ridiculous money. I mean, that was always going to lead RTE into trouble. There’s an awful lot of people working very hard [who] don’t get paid as well as they should, many of them,” he said, reports The Mirror.
This week, Kevin Bakhurst, the director general of RTE, announced that presenters’ pay would be capped at €250,000 per year.
